Digi Kids Suitable for : KS2 Where : School When : Half term - one year Group size : 30 max Our ‘Digi-Kids’ Digital arts and media programme is an introductory course aimed at younger school children as a first taste of digital music and arts. The programme uses cutting edge technology creatively to explore and enhance a range of core curriculum subjects including art, music, science, history and geography. The work will focus on creating imaginative soundscapes in either stereo or surround sound. These soundscapes will give children an opportunity to make music and sound easily through exploring software and interactive devices with which in many cases they might already be familiar (Nintendo Wii controllers etc). Children can also combine a visual element from video footage or photographs through to randomly generated visuals and VJ tools. The soundscape created becomes an exciting and stimulating way to present any existing topic or theme on which the class is currently working. As part of the project, children will be introduced to a range of basic techniques for making digital music, taking field recordings, exploring software and develop a lifelong interest in new ways of working in the arts. Participants will be encouraged to be creative and push the technology to its limits. Because of its high levels of hands-on participation, Digi Kids is particularly suited to children with lower literacy, social and communication skills and has proven a valuable tool in allowing less socially confident children the space to engage with technology and the arts and to find new ways of expressing themselves in public.
Music Technology Suitable for : KS3 & KS4 Where : School When : Half term - one year Group size : 12 max Targeted towards older children, our Music Tech programme focusses on developing the learner’s understanding of creative digital technology, combining curriculum subjects including art, music, science, history and geography. Music Technology in schools will develop an appreciation on creating soundscapes in either stereo or surround sound. The soundscapes will give students the opportunity to make music and sound easily through exploring a range of different software and interactive devices. For more competent participants, we can also combine a visual element from video footage or photographs through to randomly generated visuals and instruction in a variety of VJ tools. The soundscape created could become an alternative creative outlet in which the student or class can present a topic which they’re currently working on. At the core of Music Tech, students will develop their skills in music making, whilst at the same time broadening their understanding of field recording, exploring a wider range of software and considering the potential of new ways of working in the arts. Students will be encouraged to embrace their creativity and push the technology to new levels. This is also an engaging way to incorporate IT skills into creative media combining information technology and music to create a unique output which many students will not previously have had the opportunity to experience.
