Sing Up (the Music Manifesto National Singing Programme, produced by Youth Music with AMV-BBDO, Faber Music and The Sage Gateshead, supported by Government) is designed to put singing at the heart of every primary age child’s life. Singing makes us feel alive and happy, it helps us to interact positively with others and have you noticed how easy it is to remember things when you sing them?

Schools, organisations and freelance singing leaders (including anyone who regularly runs singing activities with primary age children, i.e. cub and scout leaders, etc) can register for the Sing Up website at www.singup.org and access the Sing Up songbank which features over 400 songs (with backing tracks and sheet music), activities, games and lesson plans.

As part of our commitment to Sing Up, SoundWave run training around the county, we are open to suggestions and are always pleased to run more! And as part of our passion for singing in general, we run a wide variety of programmes and activities that you would be welcome to get involved with.

Love Shine Down on Me

Celebrate the joy of singing en masse with SoundWave’s Big Sings! We kicked off with Workington Sings in 2008 thanks to the Sing Up grant, then added the Brewery Arts Centre’s La’al Sing in 2009 and added Sing for the Love of It at Whitehaven Civic Hall and Netherhall School, Maryport in 2011. Each event features up to 500 children singing a selection of songs together. Schools choose the songs that they would like to sing and SoundWave prepare the band and some Young Vocal Leaders to help the kids rock the house with the force of their passionate voices raising roof. The afternoon rolls into the evening event where school groups perform to an excited audience of parents eager to hear their children performing with a professional band.

One child from Sandgate Special School said “That was the best singing of my life!”. Watch out for the 2012 events scheduled for 24th February (Whitehaven), 26th April (Kendal) and June (Workington, Maryport). Schools, if you want to get involved; contact us now to reserve your place!
