What Is It?

An ongoing programme for young people who want develop their skills as community leaders with primary age children and their peers through singing with the option to complete an Arts Award at Bronze, Silver or Gold level.

Who is it for? (target  group, numbers, previous experience)

Young people years 7-13 who have the support of their secondary school to:

Learn appropriate material

Attend a weekend residential course

Create placement opportunities in local primary schools and community groups

Deliver events and performances around the county and further afield

What’s the benefit?

See your young people empowered to lead, be confident about making decisions, be enthusiastic and inspired about their own potential and ability to achieve and be sensitive to the needs of others. See them gain transferable skills through the development of their organisation, planning and preparation, communication, problem solving and more....

Availability (where and when)

Any young person can apply to attend the training residential and join the programme. We can provide access for that young person to be supported to lead singing activity at different events. We can also assist that young person to achieve a bronze, silver or gold Arts Award accredited by Trinity Guildhall.

Locally, that young person keeps learning material suitable for singing with primary age children and sources a placement opportunity in a local primary school or community group. This could be after school or at lunch time – or at the weekend as part of an out of school club. Some young people who enrol manage to do this independently and need very little support. We are always available to support remotely, but if you feel the Young Vocal Leaders at your school need more support and you are able to provide it, then a club for learning material and exploring leadership skills and techniques is a great way to keep things moving. You could run this at your school or buy a SoundWave leader in to run the sessions.

Who will deliver it?

SoundWave vocal leaders in partnership with the secondary school. As the secondary school you can get involved as little or as much as you want to.

How much will it cost?

We have always managed to raise the money for the Young Vocal Leaders to take part at no cost, however, in the coming academic year; we will need to look to schools or the young people to contribute to the price outlined below.

£300 is the actual cost per young vocal leader. It includes 2-3 excursions to lead events, one 2-night residential training opportunity, transport and rehearsals, Arts Award fees.

Where could it lead?

Achievement of Arts Award.

Recognition of the young people’s commitment to developing SEAL not just with each other, but with younger children.

Empowerment young people as leaders of change in their communities.
