After a sudden and explosive return to the music scene following years of radio silence, Harry Styles has been making waves in the industry with the music video for his brand-new single “Aperature.” The intense visuals and action-packed choreography go hand-in-hand with Harry’s new vibe: bold, electronically-inspired and dancefloor ready. From the gnarly staircase fall that took over six hours to perfect to daring backflips and perfectly-timed dance routines, Harry has outdone himself yet again in both creativity and styling.
Multi award-winning director Aube Perrie has described the new video as an “unhinged, high-energy blend of action, dance and surrealism,” further stating that it was a “fun, experimental project that breaks from typical music video tropes to match the song’s vibe.” Perrie worked closely with creative director Molly Jane and choreographer Ryan Heffington to deliver the industry-shaking project, rooted in the themes of artistic rebirth, embracing vulnerability and navigating the complexities of fame.
The video follows Styles as he is chased through a brutalist hotel by a figure that fans have dubbed “The Stranger.” This individual, portrayed by choreographer Danny Dolan, is characterised by long dark hair and sunglasses, representing the singer’s fears of his past and a darker, more chaotic side of himself that he feels he is still running from. The pursuit continues before Styles engages in a choreographed dance sequence that symbolises an eventual reconciliation of his inner conflict.
Shooting for the video occurred over the span of three days in multiple locations in and around Los Angeles, most famously including the iconic Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites, which fans recognised as the set of Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” music video released back in 2024. Chosen for its distinct architecture and history as a popular filming location for many films and music videos previously, the hotel has a rich cultural background that goes hand in hand with Harry’s new style.
Fans are loving this new brand, which strays from the loosely retro, pop-rock feel of “Harry’s House” or the theatrical “Sign of the Times” with a more house-y sound as the star heads in a more electronic direction. Between the light beat and jolting blasts of distorted fuzz, Harry’s new rhythm has a more or less euphoric impact, carrying a simple yet resonant message for fans after years apart: “We belong together.”
